Elon Musk Vows Flying Cars: What's the Real Scoop?
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has once again stated that flying cars are on the horizon, rekindling a long-held futuristic promise. This recent declaration, shared on X, revives discussions about the highly anticipated Tesla Roadster and its potential unique capabilities. While Musk has previously expressed skepticism about the practicalities of flying vehicles, he now suggests that this advanced form of transportation could indeed become a reality. This vision offers a glimpse into a future of innovative personal mobility.
Musk's latest statement isn't the first time he's hinted at cars leaving the ground. The much-delayed Tesla Roadster, a supercar that has seen multiple unveilings pushed back, has long been rumored to feature a special SpaceX package. This package is said to include cold gas thrusters, designed not only for breathtaking acceleration but also to allow the car to gain small bursts of altitude, potentially enabling it to clear obstacles or "hover."
Interestingly, Musk's stance on flying cars has evolved over time. In 2017, he voiced concerns about their feasibility, citing potential issues like excessive noise and powerful wind forces, as well as safety anxieties. At that time, his focus leaned towards tunnels as a solution for urban congestion, leading to the creation of The Boring Company.
However, his perspective appears to have softened. More recently, during an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience last October, Musk expressed a desire for anyone who wants a flying car to be able to own one. He noted that while flying cars were once a hallmark of future predictions, they haven't materialized. Now, it seems he's embracing the idea, suggesting that both tunnels and flying vehicles could coexist as transportation solutions. The big question remains whether the Roadster will indeed be Tesla’s first step towards making personal flying vehicles a reality, or if it's a concept that will continue to evolve.
