Tesla's autonomous Robotaxi service is rapidly expanding its reach, with a significant geofence enlargement in Houston, Texas. This move dramatically increases the service area for unsupervised electric Model Ys, allowing more residents to experience driverless rides. The expansion, marked by a unique "rocket-shaped" boundary, signals Tesla's growing commitment to revolutionizing urban transportation with sustainable, electric solutions, moving towards a future of cleaner, more efficient city travel.

Tesla has significantly expanded its Robotaxi service in Houston, Texas, drawing a striking "rocket-shaped" boundary across the city's northwestern and central areas. This enlargement dramatically increases the zone where driverless electric Model Ys can pick up passengers, marking a major step in the company’s efforts to make autonomous mobility widely available.

The original service area, covering about 25 square miles, is now part of a much larger blue zone that stretches closer to central Houston. Since its launch in April 2026, Houston's Robotaxi service has used Model Ys operating without anyone in the front seats, booked through a dedicated app. This hands-free experience highlights the potential for electric vehicles to offer a safer, more convenient, and significantly cleaner alternative to traditional ride-hailing services.

This Houston expansion mirrors Tesla’s strategy of gradually widening coverage after thorough validation, a pattern seen across other major cities like Austin, Dallas, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. These unsupervised Robotaxi services have collectively logged millions of driverless miles. While Model Ys are currently the main vehicles for public rides outside Austin, Tesla's purpose-built Cybercabs, which lack a steering wheel, are expected to roll out in Dallas next, further accelerating the shift towards fully autonomous electric fleets. These innovations are crucial in driving down urban emissions and transforming how we move, emphasizing the urgency of embracing sustainable, electric transport solutions for a healthier planet.
