Elon Musk has confirmed that both Tesla and SpaceX have formed special committees to investigate a potential merger. This significant step follows months of speculation about combining the electric vehicle giant and the aerospace pioneer. Musk openly supports the idea, pointing to extensive shared work in areas like artificial intelligence, advanced chip design, and robotics. However, he also acknowledged the complex path ahead, noting that no terms have been agreed upon and shareholder approval presents a major challenge.

Elon Musk envisions a powerful synergy between Tesla and SpaceX, pointing to shared efforts in advanced AI software, cutting-edge chip design, and robotics. He believes a merger could accelerate breakthroughs in fields ranging from sustainable electric transport to future space exploration, moving toward what he calls a "super intelligence singularity." Musk first made this disclosure during SpaceX's third quarter earnings call.

However, bringing these two tech giants together faces significant hurdles. Special committees from both companies are now evaluating the merger idea, with Musk stepping aside from discussions due to his conflicted role. A major challenge for Tesla is securing shareholder approval, which demands agreement from 50 percent of all outstanding shares – a very high bar that has historically proven difficult. Tesla recently filed its proxy statement for its December 3 annual meeting, which did not include merger terms.

No terms have been finalized, making the timing of any shareholder vote uncertain and likely beyond Tesla's upcoming annual meeting. This news follows SpaceX's strong third-quarter financial results; it reported Q3 revenue of $14.58 billion, a 161 percent increase year-over-year, with its "Super Intelligence" segment now leading its earnings. This robust performance will significantly influence the valuation discussions. As Tesla prepares to announce its own earnings soon, the potential union remains a key topic for investors.
