New Talents Join the Fight to Expose Climate Truths
Inside Climate News (ICN) has welcomed its largest class of summer environmental reporting fellows yet, with thirteen collegiate and post-collegiate journalists joining the team. This program aims to sharpen their reporting skills and deepen expertise in crucial climate and environmental topics. By fostering new talent, ICN is building a vital pipeline for environmental media, ensuring that critical stories about our planet's future are told. These emerging reporters will tackle urgent issues from environmental justice to global climate leadership, underscoring the importance of informed public discourse on climate action.
This summer, Inside Climate News is significantly boosting its capacity to cover critical environmental issues with its largest-ever cohort of reporting fellows. Thirteen promising journalists from across the U.S. are diving into a program designed to hone their investigative and writing talents, focusing on the most pressing climate and environmental challenges. This initiative is more than just an educational opportunity; it’s about strengthening the foundation of environmental journalism, which is crucial for a well-informed public.
The fellows will be researching diverse and impactful topics, including the complexities of overseas mining, China's evolving role in global climate leadership, vital environmental justice issues in Florida, the health of New York state's wetlands, and conservation efforts on public lands in the Mountain West. These areas of focus highlight the urgent need for dedicated reporting to hold polluters accountable, scrutinize potential solutions, and inspire collective action against global warming. By tackling such important subjects, these young journalists play a key role in raising awareness and driving progress toward a more sustainable future.
Since its launch in 2020, ICN’s fellowship program has nurtured over 90 journalists, demonstrating a growing commitment to the field. This expansion ensures that environmental stories, often complex and overlooked, receive the attention they deserve. The program is made possible through the generous support of organizations like the Clif Family Foundation, Outrider, the Institute for Nonprofit News, the Dow Jones News Fund, and the fellows’ universities.
