The Czech Ministry of Transport has officially given the green light for Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system on its roads. Interestingly, Prague initially had reservations earlier this year, having previously declined to automatically recognize the Netherlands’ April approval. Concerns about how the system handled speed limits, recognized traffic signs, and ensured driver attention were among the reasons for their initial caution. However, months of expert reviews, discussions with Tesla, and insights from other countries already using FSD have successfully addressed these issues. Officials underlined that “Safety remains the top priority” throughout this process.
It’s crucial to understand that FSD Supervised is a driver-assistance feature, not a fully autonomous one. Drivers must always remain engaged, pay attention to the road, and are legally responsible for their vehicle. Cars need to be equipped with Tesla's latest computer hardware to use the feature.
This approval follows a wave of similar clearances across Europe, starting with the Netherlands in April. Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, and Slovenia have since followed suit. While these approvals cover only a modest share of the EU population, their collective endorsements build momentum. This progress is particularly important as a key EU committee will soon vote on a wider bloc-wide approval, potentially opening up major markets like Germany and France.
